Who are the Pixie Spirit Guardians?

The Pixie Spirit Guardians is a group of friends who, once a month, go out into the country to collectively clean up litter from the streets of the Netherlands.

This initiative was founded by Björn, who has been regularly going out with a trash bag and litter picker for several years.

Because he wanted to raise more awareness for the fantasy community and raise funds for a good cause, he came up with the idea to go out in costume, to attract more attention from the public and share the story behind it.

Since doing it alone is only alone, he decided to approach his group of friends to see if there were others who shared his passion and wanted to join him.

And so, the Pixie Spirit Guardians were born — a group of like-minded people who want to make the world a little more beautiful together.

Looking for litter in Heerenveen
The Pixie Spirit Guardians are spread across the Netherlands, so we decided to visit a different town each month. This way, we ensure that not always the same people have to travel far.

Our first Guardians meeting took place on May 31st in Heerenveen.

And wow, what a lovely and lively city Heerenveen is, and there’s so little litter! We were warmly received by the public on the street. Over six hours, we wandered through Heerenveen with our trash bags and litter pickers. In total, we managed to remove 11 kilos of litter from the streets.

Deposit Money for SOS Kinderdorpen
Because we at Pixie Spirit also want to contribute to a good cause, we have decided to donate the deposit money we find on the street. In our case, this goes to SOS Kinderdorpen.

SOS Kinderdorpen is an international organization dedicated to children without parents or children growing up in difficult circumstances. They provide these children with a safe and loving home environment, often in the form of their own family within an SOS Dorp.

At Pixie Spirit, we realize how fortunate we are, having all grown up in warm and safe environments. We believe every child in the world has the right to the same, and that’s why we are committed to this wonderful cause.

In Heerenveen, we found €2.30 in deposit money. It’s not much, but every little bit helps. And who knows how much we’ll collect next time!

Closing with a Cozy Barbecue
After a wonderful day, it was time to end it in a ‘gezellige’ (cozy) way with a fantasy-themed barbecue in the park.
Besides delicious food, we also brought our poi, hoops, and giant bubbles. This way, we could wrap up the day in style.

With many good memories, we look back on a successful first Pixie Spirit Guardians meeting. We’re already looking forward to the next one!
