Step into the world of witch’s cauldrons

It has happened to all of us. You are enjoying the warmth and togetherness at an event, dancing to good music, chatting with new friends, and then suddenly you hear that familiar rumble in your stomach. That’s right, your belly wants attention too. And when it does, where do you go? To Eurydice Held’s food stand, of course, where she magically conjures up the most delicious dishes in her famous witch’s cauldrons.

De witch’s cauldrons is a food stand influenced by different cultures, but its foundation lies mainly in Surinamese cuisine, where Eurydice herself comes from, something that makes the stand both unique and delicious.

Pixie Spirit spoke with Eurydice about her special food stand.

Who is Eurydice and how did witch’s cauldrons begin?
As a young girl, Eurydice could always be found in the kitchen with her family. That is where her love for cooking began. As she grew older, she worked at various food stands for a while, something she truly loved and enjoyed to the fullest. Friends often asked her, “So Eu, when are you going to start your own business?” But she postponed that step for a long time because her life was already filled with study and work.

But a thought becomes a dream, and nothing is more beautiful than chasing your dreams. In 2025, the moment came when she decided to take the leap, under the motto: “If not now, then when?” And so, in May 2025, with special thanks to Dennis, witch’s cauldrons was born, a food stand that has since become a familiar presence at many fantasy events.

Where does the name witch’s cauldrons come from?
At witch’s cauldrons, a lot of cooking is done with herbs and methods you won’t find in ready-made packets. These herbs come directly from nature. The idea is that the food not only warms you, but also heals you a little, using herbs that our ancestors already relied on.
Within Surinamese Creole culture, knowledge and traditions of herbs and natural medicine go back many generations. What was once ancestral wisdom was sometimes labeled by others as “witchcraft.” The name “cauldrons” refers to cooking in large cauldrons and pots over open fire. So the name witch’s cauldrons is a natural choice. It is also a name that Eurydice and her family had used for many years, which makes it extra special to her.

What makes witch’s cauldrons so special?
When Eurydice started witch’s cauldrons, she immediately knew it would not be an ordinary food stand. It is important to her that everyone can eat at her stand: people on a small budget, people with allergies, and vendors who are so busy that they sometimes forget themselves.

Many vendors are too busy during events to stand in long lines, or too tired at the end of the day to cook for themselves. They often fall back on a simple cheese sandwich behind their stall, and that’s exactly the point. Eurydice’s motto is: “You can’t live on a cheese sandwich.” That’s why she uses runners who bring snacks to vendors during quiet moments. Vendors waiting in line also get priority so they can quickly return to their stalls. She can also be hired separately to cook for groups or vendors. Everything related to food and drinks is arranged and tailored personally, so vendors can fully focus on their stand.

What do you enjoy during an event?
During events, Eurydice enjoys the free and welcoming atmosphere , a world where you can be yourself and forget daily worries for a while. These events feel like a second home to her.
Most of all, she enjoys the happy, satisfied faces of customers visibly enjoying the dishes she lovingly prepared.

Special encounters also mean a lot to her. A few years ago, an eight-year-old girl gave her a small wooden fish-shaped charm, saying that when she saw it, she immediately knew it was meant for Eurydice. Such moments are truly special. The charm now rests safely on her altar at home.

An event is only truly successful for her when she comes home after a long weekend and sees photos on social media of her stand and customers enjoying her dishes.

Forest Spirit Soup
With her stand, Eurydice also contributes to the atmosphere of the event. Seeing it feels like stepping into a world full of witch’s cauldrons that spark the imagination.
To complete the experience, she creates imaginative names for her dishes. According to Eurydice, the name is one of the first impressions, sometimes even a small riddle.
The dish that best tells the story of witch’s cauldrons, in her opinion, is the “Forest Spirit Soup.” This soup is different at every event.

Sometimes the recipe comes from her homeland Suriname; other times from a faded recipe book belonging to someone’s grandmother. Some recipes are over a hundred years old. Sharing these recipes with visitors and honoring their origins feels very special to her.

Chase your dreams:
Witch’s cauldrons has now existed for a year, a year in which Eurydice has learned a great deal. The most important lesson she learned about herself is that if she truly wants something, she will go through storm and sea to achieve it. She is proud to have proven that to herself, and perhaps even more to everyone who once doubted her.

Her advice to hospitality entrepreneurs who hesitate to work at events? Just try it. If you don’t try, you will never know whether it suits you.
